Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,

Allow me to introduce myself. My name Ms. Angela Calamari and I have been appointed as the new Principal of St. Katharine School. I am honored and humbled and very excited to be here. I hope to carry on the wonderful educational tradition established by Dr. Gaddy. By working together, I know that we can help p our children to be very successful spiritually, socially, and academically.

The faculty and staff are all anxious to work with you in order to provide a quality education. We call on you to be our partners in education. We thank you for giving us th eopportunity to share in the responsibility of educating your child. Together, we will make a dynamic team.

In order to ensure your child's success, I believe that communication is the key. This is the first of our monthly newsletters. You can find weekly updates on our website. These will keep you informed about classroom activities, schedule changes, academic growth, and what I like to call "Nitty-Gritty Information."

 ATTENDANCE

Children are due in school by 7:50 a.m. Classes will begin at 8:15 and children will be dismissed by 2:30 p.m. A written note must be used to inform the school as to the reason for any absence or lateness. ALL STUDENTS ARE TO ENTER THROUGH THE SCHOOLYARD. You may park on Luzerne Ave. or Preston St. and enter through the schoolyard. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER ON ROSE STREET.

Children, who are absent for 40 days of school, must repeat the grade. Children, who are consistently late, will be asked to transfer to a school closer to their home and their name will be turned over to the TRUANT OFFICER. THIS IS A STRONG POLICY.

    DISMISSAL

Parents are to remain outside for their children to be dismissed. The children must have time to gather their materials and line up to be dismissed in an orderly manner. Please keep this in mind!

All students, who walk home or are picked up in cars, will be dismissed from the playground. Parent must park their cars on Luzerne Avenue and walk to the school playground to pick up their children. NO child, under grade 4, will be allowed to leave the playground unless a parent or someone comes in to get them.

REMINDER School is over at 2:30 p.m. The office is open until 3:00 p.m. If students have not been picked up by 3:00 p.m., arrangements must be made to pay the Extended School Care Program. If no arrangements have been made and the parents can not be reached, we have no alternative but to call the police.

    EXTENDED SCHOOL CARE PROGRAMS

    Before Care

Starting September 2, 2008, we will begin our Before Care program. We know some parents need to go to work early and we are providing a new service for you. The program will begin at 6:15 A.M. to 7:30 A.M. Monday through Friday. Any student that arrives to school before 7:30 A.M. will enter the building into the Before Care room. No one is allowed to wait in the hall. This rule will be strictly enforced. All students will sign in and an attendance record will be kept. There is a $3.00 charge per day or a $10.00 charge per week. If school opens late due to inclement weather there will be no Before Care.

    INCLEMENT WEATHER

In the event of bad weather (snow, ice, extreme hot weather), St. Katharine School follows the BALTIMORE COUNTY PUBLIC SYSTEM’S decision on closings, late arrivals, and early dismissals. Radio WBAL 1090 AM will announce all school information. Information is also on their website www.wbal.com.

    CANDY SALE

St. Katharine School will participate in the World’s Finest Candy sale program this year. Parents will receive more information in September. If you are on scholarship, you must participate in the fundraisers. Families on scholarship who do not participate in fundraisers will be assessed $150.00. Our goal is to raise $40,000.00.

    IMMUNIZATION RECORDS

By law, we must have an up-to-date Immunization Record on file for each student. If you have not submitted your child’s Health records to our school, please do so without delay. Also, if your child has received any additional inoculations, please bring in your child’s records so that we may update our records. Children do get excluded from school for lack of proper records.

    VAN SERVICES

There are two bus companies that provide transportation to and from school for students at St. Katharine School. The companies are not directly related to the school, therefore, you must contact and sign a contract directly with the bus company. If you want more information, the numbers are:
